Lithium Battery in Smart Phone Explodes and Starts Fire in Round Lake Beach Home?
10/3/2023 (Permalink)
Our local Northwest Lake County team wants everyone in Rou7nd Lake Beach to be fire-safety conscious at home. Each year, October is dedicated to Residential Fire Awareness Month, a month focused on helping people prevent home fires. According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), lithium batteries, commonly found in cellular phones, are more sensitive to physical stress than alkaline batteries and need to be handled with care. Here are some lithium battery safety tips from the National Fire Protection Association:
Safety Tips
- Purchase and use devices that are listed by a qualified testing laboratory.
- Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Only use the battery that is designed for the device.
- Put batteries in the device the right way.
- Only use the charging cord that came with the device.
- Do not charge a device under your pillow, on your bed, or on a couch.
- Do not keep charging the device or device battery after it is fully charged.
- Keep batteries at room temperature when possible. Do not charge them at temperatures below 32° Fahrenheit or above 105° Fahrenheit.
- Store batteries away from anything that can catch fire.
